Running games for 30–40 people (workshops, retreats, classes)
Big groups are hard to run. Unlucky Party lets up to 40 people into one room. Here’s how to make it work.
Games that work with 40
With more than 12 players, Card Flip, Random Race, Pirate Roulette and Act It Out are automatically left out (they get too long or don’t fit on screen). Everything else works with up to 40.
- Luck: Chicken Button, Hot Potato Bomb, Group Ladder, Slot Machine
- Skill: 1 to 30, Find the Number, Odd Color Out, Tap Frenzy, Reaction, Exactly 10 Seconds and more
What the host should prepare
- Make sure the Wi-Fi or mobile data is solid
- Mirror the host’s phone to a projector or TV for bigger reveals
- Turn the room link into a QR code on screen for quick joining
- Ask people to use real names or team names as nicknames
What changes with big groups
Group Ladder has at most 8 lines, so with 40 players several people share a line and everyone who lands on 💣 loses together. If you need exactly one loser, pick games with individual times like 1 to 30 or Find the Number.
Timing
A 5-game session takes roughly 5–8 minutes including the waits between games. It works well as a warm-up before breakouts.
